Kausani is a beautiful hill station in Western Kumaon. It is a calm, serene place, and the perfect place for relaxation or meditation. Gandhiji had come here for a few days, but he was so amazed by the place that he stayed here for a month and also set up an ashram here. And the ashram provides the best view of the Himalayan Peaks. The GMVN TRH is also a good place to stay. As you go by road from ashram to TRH, there is a small tea stall located midway, which has a still better view, probably the best in the whole of Kausani. Sipping the Hot tea with some toast while enjoying the sunset effect on Himalayan Peaks is a rewarding experience, enough to make you nostalgic about the tea and the scene, in future.

There are some good walks in the jungles around. And you will see the small, cute, beautiful, shy local girl with pink cheeks taking the cattle for grazing. The innocent smile that she gives you, when you hand over a chocolate to her, is a million dollar smile. Really. There are some tea gardens here as well. Orange orchards may also be seen.

Stay :

I would suggest you to stay at the Gandhi ashram. Take the rooms that face the Himalayas directly, and also have a fireplace. There are two of them. There are many other rooms as well. The sunset and sunrise are rewarding, you will never forget. There is a museum and a library to keep you engrossed. And of course, relish the food while sitting on the floor in the true indian style.
There are many other hotels as well to cater to your choice.
