How to reach there?

Lamayuru is a historically and geographically important place, situated on the Leh Srinagar Highway. The Monastery here is an important one, and is situated on the banks of Indus. I don't need to describe in detail, as it is more or less the same like other monasteries. The festival of the lamayuru Monastery is held in early July.
The village is situated in the backdrop of the sandy mountains and at many places give appearance like craters of moon. Lamayuru is a favourite among film makers, and the best suited for war films about the Indo Pak border.

Likir:
The Monastery at Likir is located in the stunnning backdrop of snow clad mountains and appears quite different from the rest of landscape. As usual, it is built on a hillock and is related to the Yellow Hat Sect (The reformists called Ge-Lugs-Pa), it's cousins being Thikse, Ridzong, Spituk etc. This monastery is definitely worth a vist, for the scenic view, if not from the historical aspect.

Alchi Monastery:
The Monastery of Alchi, now maintained by the Monks of Likir, is en route Srinagar from Leh. Being a religious enclave, it is formed by 5 different temples. The murals here, dating from 11th Century, resemble the murals of the Ajanta Caves of Maharashtra, so far away. The Dukhang (Assembly hall) and Sumtsek have murals worth seeing.

Nimoo:
Nimoo, again, lies on the Leh Srinagar Highway and is the site of the majestic confluence of the Zanskar and the Indus rivers.
